Public Engagement at the Great Hall of the University in San Giovanni
The Great Hall of the University of Naples Federico II in San Giovanni will host a pivotal public engagement event on 24 September. The event is aimed to spearhead the redesign of neighborhoods, prioritizing mobility and accessibility to services.
The students and lecturers of the master’s degree in Transportation Engineering and Mobility are involved in the project presented at the public engagement event. The Task Force SUM (Smart and Sustainable Mobility), centered at the Department of Civil Building and Environmental Engineering of the University of Naples, participates in the project with multidisciplinary competencies from many departments involving skills ranging from urbanistics to air and soil quality and from sociology to transportation. The University adopts a rigorous methodological approach to the project, encompassing data collection, mathematical analyses, and indicator development. This collaborative effort engages local stakeholders, notably the VI Municipality and the area’s high schools.
The project’s core objective is to identify and rationalize needs, particularly in higher education services, to foster synergies and optimize responses within an integrated framework and with multimodal transportation services. The project challenges the traditional urban division between centers and peripheries, redesigning new relationships in a polycentric approach.
The Public Engagement event will show the results of adopting mathematical models and simulation tools to reshape mobility under a multimodal approach. Modern mobility also needs technological tools to exploit multimodal transportation services at their best. To achieve this aim, the City of Naples will involve the municipal high schools in the national project MaaS4Italy, which aims to spread good practices in adopting Mobility-as-a-Service paradigms and platforms for managing the mobility of small, medium, and large communities. The University of Naples Federico II will facilitate this involvement in MaaS4Italy within the frame of the Public Engagement Project.
The event has been presented to the press on 18 September. What the press and communication agencies say about the Public Engagement project:
